Lone run

I dunno about you guys but I did a solo run this morning. It was anyway our VR8 but I didn’t think anyone was that eager to join in or go on. So I did the hoopalong alone, literally.
Woke up at 3:45AM and drove all the way to the office. Arrived 4:10AM just in time to hear the Timex buzzing. Wore my running gear and did crunches. Forgot to drink, pee or take a bite. Out of the door at exactly 4:30AM.
The early morning weather was rather cold. Clammy, in fact. There were forecasts of rain by 5AM so I needed to do my run before it does rain. Except for a lone figure in the grandstand, I was virtually alone at the oval.
By 4:40AM, after the rudimentary brisk walk, I was off to a very, very slow pace. I can see that I couldn’t even break 6′40″ on the Nike + iPod. Now compare that to my two runs (yeah, did two runs on Tuesday) where I averaged 5′12″ and 5′22″, respectively, and you’ll figure out this was really an excruciatingly slow run. It looked like something was dragging me down, more like hammering me down for all I know.
Anyway, by 1K I had picked up the pace to 6′10″; at 2K, it was 6′02″; 3K, 5:49″; and at 4k, it was 5′35″. Quite an improvement then, but I had some company already as a pack of runners had joined from afar, taking the oval in sprints. Everytime one would sprint, I’d join along to take the load out of my pacing. Wrong idea!
By 5K, I was finished. My time was a respectable 32′04″. Any time further than that deserves no respect from me, including myself, of course. Haha!
So it was over just as it started. In fact, by the time I was doing a cooling down stroll, I was alone again. The sprinters were gone. The lights at the grandstand were off. The sun was slowly creeping out over the MRT bridge right across EDSA. And me and the seashells were small.
No. Forget that.
So, need I ask how was your morning run, if ever?
And to keep things in perspective, hey, I ran without my earphones (what does that say about mellowing with age? Never mind.)
To save your day, take a load of Cracked and be cool.
