The long walk…briskly

Couldn’t think of a better way to describe what I’ve been doing every weekday now, and that is, taking long, brisk walks in and around camp as early as 4 o’ clock in the morning. You know it is still early because even the rooster at the back of the camp is so asleep it didn’t even crow yet when I flashed my penlight on him.

The camp is so eerily quiet at this hour, but I am not alone in my walks. There are a score of other hard-boiled runners and walkers of different ages, sexes, and sizes flitting in and out of my sight, albeit even in the darkness of the dawn. This I take with a slight precaution having just seen how dawns can turn deadly as in George Romero’s cult classic “Dawn of the Dead.” Wouldn’t want one ravenous rage-filled zombie grabbing my throat while I bend down and tie them dang shoelaces, would I?

It is actually tiring really, even if I do just the walk. Compared to my usual running routine, these walks tend to be more exhausting, what with all the gadgetry attached to me, i.e. iPhone as an iPod, earphones, stress ball, heart rate monitor strap, heart rate monitor watch, wristwatch, Nike plus sports kit, anti-breakage anti-shock sports glasses, you get the picture am sure.

Hopefully, by next week, I may tentatively try a few running laps on a one-kilometer route and see if my shoulder can withstand the constant flip-flapping when I run. Dare not it hurt then it would be safe to say I amĀ  ready to take the running plunge again. It’s been a long time. I need a new challenge. Besides, the dogs don’t come after me anymore.
